INTRODUCTION
1. The Doctrine of Salvation is called “Soteriology”
2. Biblical Soteriology covers many aspects of our Salvation
a) The work of the Lord Jesus as our Saviour
b) The appropriate response of those who truly understand salvation
AN APPRECIATION OF OUR SAVIOUR
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:1-5
1. The Person of the Lord Jesus Christ
a) He is the Living Word of God
b) He is the Eternal Word
c) He is the Divine Word
2. The Work of the Lord Jesus Christ
a) He is the Co-Creator
b) He is the Life-Giver
c) He is the Light-Giver
AN IMPORTANT WITNESS
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. John 1:6-9
1. John was a man sent from God
2. His parents were Zachariah and Elizabeth
a) Devout and God-fearing parents
b) John was their only offspring
3. Zachariah’s prophecy concerning John
76 “And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go
before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,
77 To give knowledge of salvation to His people, By the remission of their sins,
78 Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;
79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the way of peace.”
80 So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the
day of his manifestation to Israel. Luke 1:76-80
a) He will be called “the prophet of the Highest”
b) He will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways
c) He will give knowledge of salvation to His people
4. John fulfilled all that was said about him
a) He bore witness of the Lord Jesus as the Light Giver
b) Faithfully and courageously, he bore witness
THE WITNESS OF THE APOSTLE JOHN
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the w10-14ill of man, but of God
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:10-14
1. John was one of the original Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ
2. What he observed and understood
a) The Lord came into the world but the world did not know Him
b) He came to His own people but they rejected Him
c) But to all who received the Lord Jesus
i) They believed in Him as their Saviour
ii) They became children of God
3. John’s witness
a) The Lord Jesus was indeed the Word made flesh (The Incarnate word)
b) He possessed tremendous glory
c) He had the very glory of God Himself in His Being
AN INVITATION
1. To obtain knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ
2. To believe in Him as
a) The Living Word
b) The Light Giver
c) The Life Giver
3. To become children of God
